Ultrasound
The ultrasound departments of Windsong Radiology Group are fully accredited by the American College of Radiology in both general and vascular ultrasound. This distinction was the first awarded to a private facility in all of WNY.
Our entire staff of compassionate sonographers are registered with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Combined, they have over 75 years of experience and are committed to continuing education. Our team is held to the highest of standards, keeping with Windsong Radiology Group’s dedication to “Where patients come first”.
Our Board Certified Radiologists are available to give immediate results at the conclusion of your exam. (Note: some referring physicians prefer us not to offer this service.) Our department is extremely accommodating for patients requiring emergency, same-day appointments.

General Preparations
Abdominal Ultrasound:
(including gallbladder, kidneys, pancreas, aorta, liver and spleen): Nothing to eat or drink 8-10 hours prior to exam. We try to schedule these early in the morning. Coffee and tea are available in our lobby upon completion of your exam. Please advise us if you are a diabetic.
Pelvic Ultrasound: Unless your physician requests otherwise, there is no preparation for this exam. All pelvic exams are performed with high resolution endovaginal/transvaginal transducers. In the event a “full bladder” pelvic sonogram is requested, you need to
finish one quart or 32 ounces of water one (1) hour before your exam.
Please, DO NOT urinate prior to your exam!
Follicle Studies, Pregnancy, Thyroid, Scrotal, Breast and Dopplers: No preparation required.

Ultrasound Guided Breast Core Biopsy: Under guidance of ultrasound, a needle is introduced into a specific breast lump/nodule to withdraw tissue that is sent to a laboratory for evaluation.
-
No Aspirin, blood thinners or Vitamin E should be taken 5-7 days before procedure.
Amniocentesis: Under the guidance of ultrasound, a needle is introduced into the fetal sac to withdraw a small amount of fluid that is to be sent to a laboratory for fetal testing. There is no special preparation for this exam.
Sonohydrohysterography: This procedure is indicated for evaluation of abnormal bleeding, abnormal endometrial biopsy or abnormally thickened endometrial lining noted on a previous sonogram. A speculum is placed in the vagina and a small catheter is inserted through the cervix. After a small amount of saline is injected through the catheter, endovaginal images of the endometrium are produced.
Premenopausal patients are scanned optimally on day 8-12 of their cycle or when the patient is not bleeding, if possible.
General Aspirations of Fluid Collections: Under guidance of ultrasound, a needle is introduced into a specific fluid collection to withdraw fluid for either a therapeutic or diagnostic purpose, as predetermined by your referring physician. There is no preparation required for this exam.
