Digital Mammography Expansion at Windsong Radiology Group

Williamsville, NY – Women who undergo routine mammograms at Windsong Radiology Group now have more of the latest technology available to them. Windsong announced the installation process of five (5) units of Selenia digital mammography from Hologic. These will be available for patients who visit any of the three (3) facilities.

Windsong Radiology Group is very excited to be able to offer the newest technology for breast cancer detection. Digital mammography is different from conventional mammography in how the image of the breast is viewed and, more importantly, manipulated. The radiologist can magnify the images, increase or decrease the contrast and invert the black and white values while reading the images. These features allow the radiologist to evaluate micro calcifications and focus on areas of concern.

To supplement this technology, Windsong Radiology Group has incorporated Computer Aided-Detection (CAD). Digital CAD highlights characteristics commonly associated with breast cancer. When activated, it flags abnormalities to help the radiologist detect early breast cancer. CAD is, in essence, a second set of eyes to support and enhance the radiologist’s judgment.

Digital mammography feels identical to conventional screening from a patient’s perspective, though women may notice shorter exam times and a reduction in call-backs to obtain additional images. Demand for the digital mammography is high, and women are excited and pleased that Windsong Radiology Group is offering this technology at all three (3) of its sites.

“Where Patients Come First” Throughout the 20 years of service to WNY community, Dr. Sung and the entire team of radiologists, technologists and staff have remained focused on that goal. The Windsong Radiology Group is proud to provide a full range of diagnostic imaging services, including Mammography, Ultrasound, Bone Density, X-Ray, CT, MRI, Nuclear Medicine and Western New York’s first PET/CT scanner for cancer imaging.
