FAQ - CT Scans
Health
Day News recently released an article about the potential long term
risks associated with radiation exposure from repeated CT scans. This
has raised the question ….Is it safe to have a CT Scan?
We Don’t Want You to Worry…
• Newer CT scanner technology allows patients a dramatically lower radiation exposure that is also customized to each patient.
• Shorter scan times coupled with lower exposure means increased safety for the patient.
•
WNY area insurance carriers instituted a prior authorization process to
ensure that only medically necessary exams are being performed.
•
It also reviews whether or not non-radiation exposing exams, such as
ultrasound are utilized before patients are exposed to radiation for
diagnostic imaging.
At Windsong Radiology Group…
We
offer a Siemens 64 Slice CT Scanner. The scanner offers reduced scan
time (down to 7 seconds) in addition to a dose management system. "CARE
Dose4D offers an unparalleled combination of maximum image quality at a
minimum dose. The tube currently is adapted in real-time and according
to the anatomy of each individual patient’s organs, thus reducing the
dose up to 68%." (Data taken from Siemens website)
